Board Book Seeks to Capture Diverse Candidates for Mississippi Leadership

While advocates do not have appointing power over education-related boards and commissions, they are often asked to make timely recommendations. Mississippi First is recruiting leaders for a new tool designed to connect stakeholders with these leadership opportunities. The tool, called a Board Book, is intended to create a Rolodex of high-quality, diverse board candidates.

Mississippi First recently launched the application in an email to supporters.

Board positions could include but are not limited to:

  • State Board of Education
  • Mississippi Charter School Authorizer Board
  • Legislative taskforces
  • Mississippi Department of Education-created taskforces
  • Statewide nonprofit boards
  • Local traditional public school boards
  • Local charter school boards

In order to be considered for the Board Book, interested Mississippians should complete an online questionnaire, which prompts them to upload their resume and share opinions on key topics. Mississippi First plans to vet applications and contact each individual before officially recommending their name for a board position.
