This continues the Walton Family Foundation-sponsored series, designed in partnership with PIE Network and Bellwether Education Partners. While advocates and policymakers are rightly focused on using new federal funds to provide immediate relief for students, the American Rescue Plan Act also provides a unique opportunity to advance student-centered state funding formulae to ensure that money is used effectively and distributed based on students’ needs. In this session, national leaders Josh McGee (State of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas), Marguerite Roza (Edunomics Lab), Karen Hawley Miles (Education Resource Strategies), and Rebecca Sibilia (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) will advise on how advocates can take advantage of this window to push for transparency and student-centered funding reforms, and Keri Rodrigues(National Parents Union) and Alice Cain (The Moriah Fund) will discuss lessons from recent state funding initiatives.
