JerseyCAN supported legislation signed in January 2018 that requires all high schools to offer computer science courses to students. They also supported a bill that created a teaching endorsement for computer science professionals. Eventually, teachers of these computer science courses will be required to have the endorsement.
JerseyCAN is currently in the process of drafting a computer science report in collaboration with the Computer Science Teachers Association of New Jersey. The report includes recommendations for a statewide computer science plan, a public-private partnership to help pay for professional development for teachers, and comprehensive professional development opportunities for computer science teachers. Advocates hope that the governor will quickly act on the recommendations after they are released.
