Raise Up Teachers, in partnership with Stand for Children Louisiana, is a new effort to elevate the teaching profession in the Bayou State. The movement is “devoted to raising the profile and professionalism of the teaching profession by ensuring teachers get the professional salaries they deserve, and the professional development, resources, and supports they deserve in order to attract and keep the best and brightest educators in the classroom with students.” The campaign is led by teachers who are part of the Louisiana Educator Advocacy Development (LEAD) Fellowship. Raise Up Teachers is fostering a community where educators can share in their efforts to increase classroom funding together and provide a space for these conversations by teachers, for teachers to occur.

Addressing Indiana’s Quiet Teaching Crisis

In the Hoosier State, teachers are calling for better pay, career pathways, and professional supports in order to tackle the root causes of today’s shortages. Based on surveys and focus groups with teachers across the state, Stand for Children Indiana and Teach Plus Indiana released Addressing Indiana’s Quiet Teaching Crisis: A Sensible Blueprint for Progress. The report includes recommendations for elevating the profession, which are also summarized in this helpful infographic. Teachers are also asking the governor and legislators to support legislation that would boost pay, establish career growth opportunities for the best teachers, and improve preparation for teachers-in-training.
